I’m pleased to share with you exciting new science discoveries utilizing data from multiple EOS instruments. Recent data comparisons between the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) on ICESat and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on Terra show very good agreement in the determination of cloud occurrence, even in Polar regions, especially during the daytime. But not all the news is good to excellent. For example, ICESat has been experiencing problems with its laser altimeter system, and is currently in “safe mode” pending the implementation of a corrective solution.
